Summer School

Eight young coaches/players sent through Christians in Sport served alongside a summer school program in Malta for five days. The 120 kids ages 5-14 tried different sports and were introduced to four different values integrated into a sport. The director was impacted in a way to create something similar on Saturday mornings for the regular school year. The partnership will continue as we walk beside these locals in value integrated sport development.

Refugee Camp Germany

In partnership with five different entities, a 5-day camp sponsored by Gemeinde Glemseck was created and took place including on average 25-30 children per day ages 6-12. This was the first year to plan and implement a camp surrounding refugee children from three different areas. They experienced multiple sports, games, music, crafts, and stories. Children were taught how to play games/sports and introduced to concepts of the bible through play and values. It concluded with a barbecue inviting families to attend as well. This helped to strengthen our relationship with the children and our partners we serve alongside. Our hope is for those relationship to grow and more opportunities to partner together.

Football Camp Germany

For the first time, our team came alongside a local pastor for a sports ministry opportunity with a 5th level professional football team and its feeder program in Bonn, Germany. Three coaches offered drills and team opportunities to improve the level of football for the U19, U16, and U13 Fighting Miners. The coaches were also able to utilize a talk time to X and O football but also explain the values that football teaches, as well as, the heart-values that come from the sport. Many positive comments from the younger players’ parents were given, and the German coaches were left with many contacts to help equip and develop their players and coaches.

Basketball Camp Hungary

A team of coaches was sent to Hévís, Hungary for the second time to work to serve alongside a local church. Our coaches supported a local basketball club for a 4-day summer camp aimed at helping local basketball athletes develop in their sport. The campers were also given lessons in the values of: patience, focus, discipline, and hard work. The local pastor is thankful for the continued support: “Your companionship means a lot to me because it is very hard to find anybody who wants to come and be with us, to help us.” Our aim for the future is to continue deepening our relationship with the local community and provide support in the development of sport and sports ministry in the community.

Alabama Football Training

At the end of June, we helped strategically facilitate an American football camp with some University of Alabama football coaches. Nine university level coaches came from the states, and five local German coaches were involved. Coaches served the youth and local coaches by providing training sessions for 4 local teams ages U-19 and U-16 with a total attendance of 350 football players, and they participated in a coaching clinic. Practices were made in cooperation with local football clubs. The coaches focused mostly on teaching the fundamentals of the game, and together with intensity and enthusiasm, it inspired the German coaches. Our hope is for SRS to continue further training and deepen our relationships in Germany.

A day around the world

“A Day around the world” was a multi-sport participation camp that included intercultural knowledge of three countries: Mexico, Germany, and the USA. It was a three day camp held in Malta, and 62 kids ages 6-12 participated. One child came only for the last day, but shared afterwards how much he liked the camp and how thankful he was. The camp was part of a summer school and local PE teachers were there to support as well. The camp for young kids was modeled to show how one can be organized to involve experiences of different sports. Furthermore, during water breaks, the following values were introduced and discussed: truth, respect and worth.

Coaches Huddles

New coaches huddles have also been started both in Malta and in Germany. In Malta, a coaches huddle was made available for local Maltese coaches representing various sports. The huddle in Germany also centers around the building of relationships and walking alongside coaches as they learn to coach the whole athlete and not just the game.

Coaches Training Sessions

In May, we partnered with the 3D institute to hold coaches training sessions in 4 different countries and engaging 200 coaches. The sessions were held in The University of Malta, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Prague, Czech Republic, and Budapest, Hungary. The sessions focused on developing coaching skills to develop the entire athlete and to help him or her reach his or her full potential.
