Camp in Southern Romania

During the last four years, we have been to Curtici, Romania every summer. They have good sports facilities for: soccer, volleyball, handball, basketball and tennis. We have come alongside a church that likes to offer sports camps. We send coaches and volunteers to run two camps – one in the morning for the children and one in the afternoon and evening for the teenagers. About half of the participants families are very poor and live excluded form society. “Sports is a great tool to build bridges – even to people that we would not likely interact with”, said one of the Romanian volunteers. We are particularly happy to hear that after the camp during the summer a bi-weekly sports program for the children and teenagers started around the new sport of floor-ball. The church also sent one of their volunteers to one of our projects in order to learn more about sports ministry and camps in particular. The church‘s pastor says: “Now, we only need to share this great idea and opportunity with other churches. Then, he gives us contact details of other pastors, that he knows. Like he says, “it is already a win for the cause.” It looks like next summer, our teams will be spending more than one week in the south of Romania to equip and empower the locals run sports camps where children and teenagers can learn for sports and for life and where they get a chance to hear the good news.
